All my lights work

And now you're thinking, what is she talking about? It's not a metaphor, I am actually talking about all my lights working. I dragged them out from their dusty haven under my bed, plugged them in and tested each one. The process made me oddly happy. I've been shooting with school gear for over a year now. And while it's all quality stuff, it's all well used by students, and, more importantly, last used by students. My gear is never touched by anyone other than me, or someone who has had me as a production teacher. It felt really nice to pull out all my kit and have everything rolled and packed properly and certain to work unless a bulb had popped.

Tomorrow and Thursday I am doing half day shoots with my favorite client: Tiffany from the Smithsonian. Favorite because A) I like shooting with Tiffany, she's fun and reliable. And B) she works for the Smithsonian so it's always interesting stuff. This is the first freelance work I've had since she and I did a shoot in LA last January. I'm mostly not looking for Heron Media work these days. Need to concentrate on school and all. Though I will say, this little spot of work is feeling very refreshing. Like, "Oh yeah, I've still got it."

I suppose I'm also feeling good today because I'm pretty sure I got an A on my Line Producing exam this afternoon. Based on the moans and groans going around the room while we were reviewing all the answers after the test, I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who did well. This is the same group who emailed the professor and asked which of the handouts was important to read. Though they do all seem to have studied, and they are generally a sharp group, so I'm not sure why they all feel they did so badly. Certainly I have an advantage when some of the answers to questions were DBA (I set up Heron Media as Doing Business As), and per diem (Tiff and I picked our restaurant tonight based on her not spending over her per diem). I am also good at tests. I'm not sure why, I just always have been. But I wasn't expecting to be the only A.

  1. When it comes to test taking, experience counts....
