Which is to say, go back far enough and my posts are about being a film student. And now I'm a film teacher.

Company Man
We reviewed my first film project in class this morning. I used my phone to record it when it was projected (see below). The assignment was to tell a story in 1.5 to 2.5 minutes. There would be no sound. We had certain shots we had to have (use each lens at least once, do a pan, do a tilt, do a POV shot, stuff like that). And we had to do "in camera editing" which means you only get one take for each shot and then have to move on. I think, considering the limitations of the assignment and the fact that we were all just helping each other so I didn't actually have an old man in the park which would have been better, it came out pretty good.
You know, not perfect. Occasionally over exposed. One shot with a bit of the camera in front of the lens. But over all I'm pretty happy with it.
Mom: the little [ ] in the bottom right of the video window will make it play full screen.
Very cool ... I like it! One comment. Not so much about the filming but more about the story ... in the scene where your guy on the bench is circling jobs in the paper it seems almost random. This is just my opinion of course, but it may have been more effective if this guy was somehow "in the know" about a job and circled just one... to seemingly have more of a chance of affecting a positive outcome for the guy who lost his job. (is it affecting or effecting?)
There are a couple things I'd do differently with the park bench scene if I had more than one take. At least slow him down on circling jobs. Also hold on Job Fair a second more before the tilt up. And in an ideal world actually have graphic design jobs in the paper circled and do an insert close up. Sadly there were actually no jobs for this guy.

ReplyDeleteBig blank space where the video should be. What format is it? Could be my new toy (iPad) needs some plugin or app.
ReplyDeleteI see it on my phone so you should see it on your iPad. Maybe it takes time to load before it shows up.
Deletei don't think ipads like flash - if that is an flv.. dunno
ReplyDeleteIt's a QuickTime movie. I'm surprised but as I don't own an iPad I can't test it for you.
