Saturday (7th) - the fog rolled in tonight. I didn't realize until I let the dog out before bed. You can taste it as much as see it. I wonder if fog rolls in off Lake Michigan? But I suppose even if it does it won't taste salty.
Sunday (8th) - Mother's Day and Mom & Dad's anniversary and by the end of the day a lovely sunset, when it had been kind of wretched for most of the morning and afternoon. It was low tide at sunset so I went to Rock Harbor. It's not special in as much as it happens every month. But for some reason, to me, it's the most special thing of all. It's always what I think of when I think of Cape Cod.
That's not me, of course, but it sure could be. |
Monday (9th) - after dinner walk with the dog down to the river. I'm going to miss the river. Some day that little house there will go on the market and Karen and I will mortgage our souls to be able to buy it and spend the rest of our lives sitting on the dock watching the light play through the conservation lands.
Thursday (12th) - the decorative boat is back in the river for the season. As much a sign of spring as my allergies and the trampolines showing up.
Saturday (14th) - went to the Cotuit Contra Dance last night. Yes, I will try to find a dance in Milwaukee. It is a historically New England dance, but then Linda first found contra dancing when she was living in Minneapolis, so Milwaukee is a big enough city to have it. But of course for the purposes of "Cape Things" it's not the dance so much as the dancers. I have friends among the Cape dance community now.
Sunday (22nd) - I went to Scargo Tower for the sunset and to test my camera. I mean if you're going to do things like latitude testing (how does it do in very bright and very dark) it should be on an old favorite Cape Thing, right?
Wednesday (25th) - Mom and Dad are here so we did a very Cape thing, we drove down 6A from end to end really. We started in Sandwich to see the new updates to the boardwalk and beach and then went to Chatham for lunch. It was lovely weather so the ride along the Old King's Highway.
Friday (27th) - Walked on the West Dennis Beach. It was windy so there weren't a lot of people out even though it was the start of the holiday weekend. According to the traffic reports a lot of Boston people had taken Friday too. It's slightly odd to see such a big beach so empty. I don't go there very often, and usually only in the summer with visitors who want a good beach experience.
Saturday (28th) - Walked the dog in the conservation lands. I love my river. And all the marshlands have gone green finally.
Sunday (29th) - The first paddle of the season. I figured if the river is looking good from shore it will certainly look good from water level. Couldn't narrow it to one picture, so it got its own blog post.
