My new home, for now

So you've seen work life, now for home life. Claire found us a nice little house (see pictures below). I'm mostly unpacked, apart from the fact that half the boxes I brought up I'm not planning to unpack at all. There's no point for only 4 months. I'm not around the house all that much to be honest. Having all week day meals on campus means I wake up, take a shower, and leave in the mornings. And then dinner is 6-7 so depending on how much loitering I do after or what evening activities I attend sometimes it's 8 or 9 before I get home. It's only now, having a weekend, that I'm spending any time there. Except we haven't gotten internet for the house, so really I'm doing most of my loitering next door at the 3 Dogs Cafe where they have free (if slow) wifi.

It's a little strange living at the edge of nowhere like this. My cell phone provider doesn't cover this area, my nearest branch of my bank is 40 miles away, just little things I never even thought of. On the other hand, the town of Bath, where my bank is, is very cute and rather friendly. I've traveled enough around the country and around the world, that if people know of New England at all they think of it as being a cold and unfriendly place and I have never once experienced that. People at the Cape are always friendly, people here in Rockport and Camden have been welcoming, down in Bath for the morning everyone I interacted with was nice. I think it's better explained by small town than New England. I did find people in Boston to be friendly enough, but it is a city and when you start your day with traffic, pollution, and awful commutes there is a default crankiness that is inescapable.

From the dining room, through the kitchen, to the back door.

From the dining room into the living room.

From the living room toward the dining room. (Also the bike storage room. We don't eat at home much.)

From the living room down the hall. The door at the end is the bathroom. There's 2 doors on the right for the bedrooms.

My bedroom from the doorway.

My bedroom from the closet door.

Friday night dinner. It's always lobster on Fridays. Once was entertaining. To be honest, every week might get a bit boring after a while.

The view from the porch of the 3 Dogs Cafe. I'm looking forward to watching that mountain over the changing seasons.
