Cape Things

In honor of being mindful of how lucky I've been to be living here this last year or so I've set myself a goal to do a Cape Thing every day, or at least several per week. They aren't necessarily things that can't be done elsewhere, but are things that I enjoy doing here and that make me happy. There will certainly be repeats, and that's fine. The point isn't to come up with 50 new things before I go. The point is to savor what I have while I have it.

I promise not to post more than once a week. No, actually, I've decided it'll be once a month.

Friday - letting Louis run on the beach at low tide.
I have 8 more of these. I feel so restrained only showing one.

Sunday - watching the herring run at the Brewster Grist Mill.

Monday - I saw a snowy egret in the pond when I was biking to the gym. Coming and going actually. I tried to stop and pull out my phone to take a picture. Even though he was a good 15 feet or more from shore, as soon as I stopped my bike he flew off. So no proof, but take my word for it.

Wednesday - I went to the diner. I know, there will be diners in Milwaukee, and I hope to find one that I can become a regular in, but for now, this diner epitomizes Harwich to me. As soon as I walk in they bring over tea with milk, and they started doing that when I was still living in Boston and only coming down sporadically. It's such a community here, especially in the off season.

Friday - Found a new trail to walk. If you're on Great Western there's a hiker sign on the left just before you get to the lake with the beach. It's fairly short, about 20 minutes to walk, but it has a nice bog.

Saturday - Today I went to Thompson's Field, which is part of the Harwich Conservation Lands. It's not the prettiest parcel of land they have, but it's 57 acres so there was plenty of walking. And apparently it's the place people in Harwich go to let their dogs run. So it's not officially a dog park, but Louis loved it.
