Putting together a team

I've had great teams when I was doing films in DC, but we all had day jobs. So while I think we did fantastic work, it was a hobby, especially for everyone else. Now I'm pretty much building a team from scratch. No one from previous Heron Media films is likely to work on Ghost Tours. But they're all in film school so this is their job, so to speak.

I now have Lauren Scully as Cinematographer and Angela Mercurio as Production Designer. Scully is a year ahead of me in the MFA program and will be getting her degree in May when the two films she was DP on for her thesis credit last summer finally screen. Angela is an undergrad in my cinematography class and is also going to do the production design for one of the Prod 3 films even though she's not actually in that class. I approve of this. She gets all the experience doing the P3 class and then applies those lessons learned to my film. ;-)

Here's what's exciting though, both of them immediately jumped in with both feet. They've been doing image searches, tossing out ideas of films we should look at, they're already thinking about things even though it's months before we start shooting. We're having these conversations riffing off ideas about color and texture and tone. It's fun. It's so much fun.
