Films we talked about this term

I want to keep a running list of films that get mentioned in classes this term that I want to remember to see either right away or eventually. Check back periodically if you're curious. I'll keep adding to it.

• The Hours - Screen Adaptations, and Line Producing, for entirely unrelated reasons both mentioned this on the same day.
• A Single Man - Screen Adaptations, we're going to watch an excerpt in class, but it sounds like a film I'd like anyway
• Scotland, PA - Screen Adaptations, for something completely different. Though that's on the later rather than sooner list.
• Frozen River - Line Producing. I don't remember why that came up, but I made a note. 

We got a bunch of assigned watching for the sound class, both required and recommended. A lot of them I've seen, though not necessarily recently. And most of them are ones I'm likely to enjoy, as opposed to just feeling like I *should* have seen them in order to get people's references.

• Raising Arizona (required)
• Barton Fink (required)
• The Player (required) - this is one of my favorite movies anyway
• Stranger Than Fiction (required) - one of the few I don't really know
• Apocalypse Now (required) - I don't think I've ever sat and watched the whole thing of this so it's good to have an excuse to. It's one everyone references, but I probably wouldn't have bothered on my own.
• Lord of the Rings (required) - happy for an excuse to re-watch before the Hobbit comes out.
• Saving Private Ryan (required) - I saw this when it came out, which is probably not recently enough
• Citizen Kane (recommended) - watched this for Masterworks last fall
• Close Encounters of the Third Kind (recommended) - I bet I haven't seen this since the 80s. I'll enjoy watching it again.
• Poltergeist (recommended) - not a genre I usually enjoy so we'll see
• Psycho (recommended) - I'm surprised we didn't watch this for Masterworks. Or maybe it was on my list of things I ran out of time for.
• The Godfather (recommended)
• Raging Bull (recommended)
• Terminator 2 (recommended) - I'm sure I saw this when it was new, but I won't mind watching it again.
• Titanic (recommended) - I saw this in the theater and once was enough
• Star Wars (all) (recommended) - well, the second 3 will be a bit of a hardship to re-watch. And I'm sure I'll be the only person in class to have seen all 6 on first runs in the theater. And the only one to have given away 2 box sets of the original trilogy on VHS when I moved.
• Wall-E (recommended) - I have wanted to watch this since it came out and not got around to it.
• Fight Club (recommended) - Joel wanted me to watch this when I was shooting Bare Knuckle for him, but I only skimmed it then. I just don't like these kinds of films, no matter that everyone references this one.
• The Social Network (recommended) - I just saw this last spring. I don't remember it being particularly interesting from a sound perspective.
• Lord of the Rings (trilogy) (recommended) - So then I assume it's only the first one on the required list??? Whatever, I'll happily watch all 3 again anyway.
