The auditions last night were great. We had bad weather, which probably hurt us. Only about half the people who said they were coming actually showed up. Lai is having a problem because he didn't get anyone reading for him. Aaron got one perfect person for each part. Ehsan's script is still a little up in the air, but I think he's got some interesting people to pick from. I think Jorge is ultimately going to go with friends, but it was still a good exercise for him. He had a couple people come out and read for him but they were both about 10 years older than he was hoping for. And me? Well I'm having an embarrassment of riches.
I had 2 guys read for Mike and 3 women read for Julie. The women were all good. I loved the first one we saw, but she's about 15 years too young for it. No one is going to believe a 21 year old is worried about losing her chance to get pregnant. But I really want to have some other part for her in the future because she was great. The 2 women in the right age range were both good, but one was union and the other not. So I'll pick the non-union one. They were both equally good and this way I don't have to spend 3 days running around filling out paperwork just so I can post the finished assignment to the blog.
The guys on the other hand I'm having a really hard time picking between. They were both really good. Ultimately I'm going to have to pick and then tell one of these guys that even though he was perfect for the part he didn't get it. I probably won't phrase it quite that way. But effectively that's what it is. And I suppose, since they're actors they're used to that. Auditions must be like that all the time. You walk out feeling like you nailed it, because you did, but you still don't get the part. But seriously, I don't know how they keep at it when it must be like that over and over.
So pick the guy who works best with the non-union girl. And yes, actors get that all that time. Tough competition!
