I conferred with my sister-in-law (because it's no good asking my nephews when they're available) and they are in fact already going to be in Boston on the weekend I had in mind for a craft show. So once I arrive in the truck I'll give them a call and a few of them will peel away from the show and come over to lend a hand, and a strong back. Not sure yet if oldest nephew will make it as well. If they'd all just been driving over for the day he'd have caught a ride with the other boys, but as he doesn't drive and the other boys will already be there I might be out of luck. We'll see.
The plan is to load up the truck on Friday - evening I suppose since any helpers I manage to scrounge will be coming from work - then drive up to Mary's and stay over night there as there will no longer be anywhere to sleep at my place.
Get up wretchedly early on Saturday and start driving. It's 437 miles from Mary's house to my apartment which google says should take us 8 hours and 15 minutes in current traffic, but probably more like 9 hours in the truck. I doubt I'll be managing 75 mph. Call up the boys, unload the truck. Treat everyone to a very nice dinner.
Sunday unpack and settle a bit. Oh and return the truck.
Monday take Mary to the airport first thing in the morning. Take Blue for a long romp in the park. Wonder how long it will take to feel like home. Actually the first thing I should do will sort the stuff for getting a resident sticker on my car because I'll probably have to pay for it to be in a lot until then which will be expensive but still cheaper than getting tickets.
I've been looking into the truck rentals. Budget seems to be the cheapest and also has unlimited miles. Here's something interesting though. It would be $50 cheaper to return the truck in Albany rather than Boston. But I suppose I would end up spending that much in gas and tolls driving it to Albany and then getting someone to drive me back to Boston since my car would be in the wrong city at that point. And better to arrive and settle rather than arrive an immediately leave town again.
yeah - just return it in Boston. you wouldn't save $50 with gas both ways.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've already booked it. But while I was doing the research I noticed it. I wonder if it's because Albany is smaller and cheaper or if it's because of the unlimited miles and Albany is closer to College Park. But I certainly don't need more running around just then.
